Getting started

1. Install and run the ShellSpeak gateway on your computer.
2. In the app, scan the QR code shown by the gateway to connect and pin the certificate.
3. Tap the microphone and speak your command.

Running the gateway

• It runs in the menu bar — how do I stop it? Click the mic icon in the menu bar (near the clock) → Quit. Closing the window only hides it to the menu bar; the gateway keeps running on purpose, and by default it does not time out.
• Make it start automatically: tick “Start automatically at login” (in the window or the menu-bar icon). It launches quietly into the menu bar and starts the gateway at every login. Untick it, or use System Settings → General → Login Items, to turn it off.
• Use it away from home: install the Tailscale app on both your Mac and iPhone and sign in to both with the same account, then use the gateway’s Anywhere tab. Clicking Start opens Tailscale for you, but you sign in yourself. (Tailscale is a separate third-party app; ShellSpeak is not affiliated with it.)

Troubleshooting

• Can’t reach your computer: confirm the computer is on, the gateway is running, and both devices are on the same Wi-Fi.
• Microphone not working: enable it in iOS Settings → ShellSpeak.
• “That port is already in use”: another program (often a gateway left running from before) holds the port. Quit the old one, or edit ~/.shellspeak/config.json and change "port" (e.g. to 3100), then click Start again.
